Evanescence Will Play A One-off Show

August 31, 2009

Evanescence will play a one-off show at the Maquinária festival in São Paulo, Brazil in November. Evanescence bassist Tim McCord has apparently confirmed via MySpace that the band will appear at the two-day event (Nov. 7-8), which will feature additional performances by Faith No More, Jane’s Addiction and Deftones, among others.

Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee revealed in an online posting earlier this month that she has been working on material for the follow-up to 2006’s “The Open Door”. She also indicated that she had “a little surprise” for the band’s fans, but declined to give further details.

Lee released a statement in June in response to media reports surrounding the announcement that Evanescence’s former guitarist/songwriter Ben Moody had launched a new project called We Are The Fallen. Lee wrote at the time:

“We’re currently working on new material that I’m extremely excited about. I believe that to make great music you have to give yourself the freedom to evolve. I don’t see the point in making the same record twice, so I always want to challenge myself to make something better, stronger, and more interesting than before. That takes time, but it’s worth the wait for me. Hopefully, it will be for the fans too.”

In addition to Moody, We Are The Fallen features fellow ex-Evanescence bandmates John LeCompt (guitar) and Rocky Gray (drums) alongside “American Idol” runner-up Carly Smithson and bassist Marty O’Brien, whose recording and touring credits include Disturbed, Kelly Clarkson, Static-X, Methods of Mayhem, and Tommy Lee.

Moody left Evanescence shortly after “Fallen”, citing creative differences with Amy Lee. LeCompt and Gray followed in 2007.

Metallica, Korn, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage Members Join Forces To Record ‘A Song For Chi’

August 30, 2009

Korn bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu has joined forces with members of Metallica, Slipknot, Machine Head, Disturbed, Killswitch Engage and Hatebreed to record an instrumental song to benefit Deftones bassist Chi Cheng.

As some of you may know, Cheng is currently in a semi-conscious state following an automobile accident in Santa Clara, California on November 4, 2008. Chi is slowly making progress but he needs your help.

Cheng’s brother wrote in an online post that Chi’s insurance company had stopped paying for his treatment in mid-January. His mother posted that Cheng’s house was returned to the bank and his dog was given away.

You can support Chi and his family by heading over to the A Song For Chi site where you can download your free copy of the song, watch the music video and — most importantly — make a donation. 100% of the donations will go to Chi and his family to help cover his ongoing medical expenses.

The following musicians make an appearance on the recording:

Jim Root (Slipknot)
Sid Wilson (Slipknot)
Ray Luzier (Korn)
Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu (Korn)
Dave McClain (Machine Head)
Robert Trujillo (Metallica)
Clint Lowery (Sevendust)
Morgan Rose (Sevendust)
Brian “Head” Welch (ex-Korn)
James “Munky” Shaffer (Korn)
Wayne Lozinak (Hatebreed)
Wuv (P.O.D.)
Mike Wengren (Disturbed)
Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage)

The track was produced by Fieldy and Q (Stillwell) and was engineered by Q and Ralph Patlan. It was mixed by Jim “Bud” Monti.

The video clip below was directed by Sébastien Paquet.

Deepfield Stream New Song On CageRattle.com

August 29, 2009

Deepfield, the 4 piece rock band originally from SC that we all know and love, have streamed a new song, American Dream Master, on their artist page here at CageRattle.com. You can check it out by clicking right here.

Their debut record, Archetypes and Repetition, was released in 2007 and featured the singles “Get it” and “Into the flood”, which are still in rotation on Cage Rattle Radio, XM, Sirius and many radio stations across the country. Their follow up record, (produced and mixed by Skidd Mills), is near completion and slated for a late 09 release.

Deepfield was also one of the first bands to tour on the Cage Rattle Most Wanted tour. Let me just say one thing, if you missed their live show, you definitely missed out.

Deepfield

August 29, 2009

The Hubble space telescope allows man to reach farther than any other tool available in his quest for knowledge and in his search for the answer to the question: Why are we here? Many great thinkers throughout history have attempted to answer this question, some with religious zeal, some with cold logic, some with myth, and others with science. In 1995 the Hubble captured an image of a dark corner of space, a dimension as small as a tennis ball appears at 100 meters. After 10 days, the Hubble revealed not only unseen stars, but over 3,000 never-before seen galaxies. This image, called “Deep Field”, has become the landmark image in the study of the early universe. As Hubble did not attempt to map the whole of the visible sky, Deepfield (the band) has not attempted to comment on the whole of music today.

Instead, they have picked a small point in the murky planescape of often-watered-down, overly-safe music, and tried to inform the thirsty public of the diversity of sound possible within modern rock music. Says Teal, “We didn’t write our record to revolutionize the mainstream, but to make an impact, to be a catalyst.” Their sound is not pre-cognitively singular, but definitely rock, influenced by metal, punk, and progressive: guitar and melody driven with a lot of riffage. Like the wildly varying galaxy structures within Hubble’s revolutionary image, the songs on “Archetypes and Repetitions,” their debut release on In De Goot Recordings, are varied, dynamic, and diverse.

Their songs, vocal and guitar led, each present a different musical idea. These ideas are explored from “Get It” (the first radio single) a guitar driven piece, to songs whose melodies you will want to belt out at shows, like “Into the Flood,” to songs like “Wayside” whose lyrics you will explore in the isolation of your headphones. Within the tapestry, the band is able to show elements of smart-pop mentality with songs like “Fall Apart”, potentially yielding a crossover smash and tapping in to a much larger market than their hard-rock sensibility would ever allow All of this while maintaining the edge of the rest of the record, and showing furthermore that they are set on not being “pigeon-holed” in one particular genre. The music is sonically full with tasteful parts, and intricate harmonies. Solid hooks are woven together by brilliant bridges within the song structure, creating an album ready to light a fire under radio.

Deepfield was formed in Charleston, SC, after Teal, Lee, King and ex-guitarist Eric Bass became weary of the music scene that surrounded them. Only after shopping a 3 song demo the band found themselves playing a showcase in New York, where they were promptly signed by industry legend Bill McGathy to his new label, In De Goot Recordings. After several months of development, with the writing of some 70+ demos, the band was then sent to Memphis, TN, to record with producers Skidd Mills and Paul Ebersol (Three Doors Down, Saliva, Third Day). After brief stints on the road with a few different bass players, the band decided on Columbia’s Dawson Huss, who offers the missing piece to Deepfield’s live act with skill and vocals that live up to the musicianship the founders established in Memphis.

Deepfield’s live show is a high energy response to the influences each individual brings to the group. Teal, intelligent, always offering his opinion and challenging everyone around him to think, brings it onstage, but if you are watching this defiant front man carefully, he will show you his vulnerability. Lee, Teal’s antithesis, normally reserved and introspective, let’s loose behind his Bonham-style kit, bringing a driving energy with solid, smart drum parts. King, often sarcastic and rarely serious, is never more serious in his obsession with perfect tone, perfect parts, and perfect sonic ambience. Huss, the newcomer, complements Teal vocally, and Lee/King with his solid bass work and onstage energy.

Astronomers of the past were content to comment on the stars of the night sky, derive meaning from the constellations and the Sun’s path through them. But if you look through Deepfield’s lense past the obvious, bright distractions, into the dark space behind them–weary of the archetypes and repetitions of history before them, you will discover - galaxies.

Demon Hunter Announce Line-up Changes and New Album

August 29, 2009

An update was recently posted on their myspace blog, letting Demon Hunter fans know about the future of the band as well as some info on a future album release. After some major changes to the line-up, the band feels they are ready to press forward and start doing what they love again. Here’s the update:

Firstly, we would like to officially announce some lineup changes that we’ve recently undergone and will undergo in the coming months. My brother, Don, whom I started this band with in 2001, has decided to leave the band due to increasing priorities with both his home life (not least of which are his two amazing kids, my niece and nephew), and his constant workload with the design firm that he and I continue to undertake together, Invisible Creature. I’m saddened to see Don leave, as we have shared so many great times together in the band, written some amazing songs together, played in bands together since we were teenagers, and built every aspect of this band from the beginning with a shared vision. However, Don’s decision to move on comes with a deep understanding on my part. As he told me recently, he will continue to be “Demon Hunter’s biggest fan,” as he continues to watch the band progress.

We, as a band, and more specifically I, would like to give Don my most heartfelt “thank you” for everything he has contributed to this band from day one. We are forever grateful for the passion, vision, artistry and talent that you brought this band. You will be missed. We love you, and wish you the very best with every future endeavor.

Additionally, Ethan Luck, who has been with Demon Hunter since The Triptych (2005) has also decided to leave the band as his responsibilities with Relient K (in which he plays drums) continue to escalate. Ethan played a very essential role in recording and performing on both The Triptych and Storm The Gates Of Hell, and his professionalism and friendship are a vital part of what Demon Hunter has become over the last 4 years.

We would like to thank Ethan for all of his hard work, dedication and friendship. His contribution, in both craft and spirit have helped us become who we are as a band. We also wish Ethan all the best with whatever may lie ahead.

Patrick Judge, who filled in for Ethan during the Stronger Than Hell Tour and appears on the Live in Nashville album is now an official member of Demon Hunter. We are very pleased to welcome Patrick into the fold. His skill, devotion and drive have already proven to be instrumental in the continual evolution of the band and we’re excited to see what the future holds with his inclusion.

Last, but not least, we have been busy working on material for our 5th album, which we will be entering the studio to record in October. At this point, I would say about 90% of the music has been written, and probably about 40% of the lyrics/melodies. As cliché as it can be to say, the album is shaping up to be heavier, faster, and more aggressive than previous Demon Hunter material (and there might be a ballad or two in there for good measure). As always, we’re doing our best to maintain the classic DH sound, all while introducing some new and exciting ideas to keep things exciting. I’m extremely proud of what we have so far, and I can’t wait to enter the studio and hear it come to life!

Stay tuned in the coming months for additional news regarding the new album!

Thank you, everyone, for your continued support.

-Ryan Clark & Demon Hunter

In This Moment Plays Last Song In The Pit

August 28, 2009

According to Justin Press of Examiner.com, some of the most memorable moments of In This Moment’s performances on the recently completed Vans Warped Tour occurred during the final song of the group’s set, “Daddy’s Falling Angel”, when all the bandmembers, including vocalist Maria Brink, went to the center of the floor and had a massive circle pit flowing around them, “totally risking life, limb and instrument.” Press writes, “It was a killer moment and I’m not sure how much Monster Energy the band had been gulping down, but they sure had balls to do that! You wouldn’t have seen Underoath doing that.”

In This Moment guitarist Chris Howorth wrote in a recent update from the road:

“One of the best things we came up with was to go out into the crowd on the last song and try and get a circle pit going around us, and even better than that….an all-girl circle pit… Turns out Warped Tour is the perfect place to get a huge all-girl circle pit going…..and I gotta say it’s a pretty cool feeling to stand in the middle of a bunch of girls who are circle-pitting around you.”

Video footage of In This Moment’s “circle pits” from the Denver, Chicago and St. Louis shows can be viewed all over YouTube.

The photo below were taken by Justin Press at the Carson, California stop of this summer’s Vans Warped Tour.
