Shinedown Goes Gold
May 13, 2009
SHINEDOWN’s The Sound of Madness album has been certified gold, having shipped half a million copies in the U.S. A lot of those albums were probably bought by pop fans who are only recently discovering the veteran rockers thanks to the mainstream success of “Second Chance.”
Because of that, the band has recently been drawing larger crowds to their live shows, and a wider mix of fans. Drummer BARRY KERCH says, “You get the soccer moms out and everything…sometimes 50 to 75% of the crowd is new fans.”
Because all their concerts are all-ages shows, Shinedown singer BRENT SMITH tells us he’s been pleased to see that they’re attracting younger fans, really young. He says the other night at a concert, he saw one young lady who was about nine years old. He says, “She’s in the front row, her and her mom, and she’s just rocking out. I just think it’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.”
Shinedown are currently touring the U.S., playing tonight in Johnson City, Tennessee. They’ll head to Europe next month, then return to the U.S. for their Stimulate This tour.
Shawn “Clown” Crahan Returns to Slipknot Tour
May 13, 2009
Slipknot’s Shawn “Clown” Crahan returned to the band’s tour on Friday in Oklahoma City after missing several shows because his mother passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Crahan revealed that he lost his father in 2005 following the release of Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses), and during the recording process for last year’s All Hope Is Gone, his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Black Label Society, Mudvayne & Static-X Team Up For Tour
May 13, 2009
According to a posting on Black Label Society’s MySpace page, the band will team up with Mudvayne and Static-X for a U.S. tour this summer. Exact cities and dates are expected to be announced soon.
Black Label Society’s Skullage DVD package sold 5,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on the Top Music Videos chart. Released April 21 in three different configurations,¬† CD, DVD and CD/DVD; this collection features the best of Zakk Wylde & Co. This massive greatest hits package is chock-full of live material, music videos, interviews, and a vivid cross-section of brutal and introspective tracks, from amped-up blazers like “Fire It Up” and “Suicide Messiah” to raw power ballads like “In This River” and “Spoke In The Wheel”.
Showcasing the best of decade-deep career, Skullage is not only full of hot licks and headbangers, but some at-home moments with Zakk. “Welcome To The Compound” is a brand new interview feature with the guitar god, with some hysterical moments thrown into the mix. A package this mammoth surely caught the attention of the metal fans, which resulted in sales shooting to the top position in its first week!
3 DOORS DOWN Awaken Astronauts
May 13, 2009
3 DOORS DOWN fans think the band is out of this world, but now they can say that for real.
Yesterday morning, NASA woke up the crew of the Space Shuttle Atlantis by playing 3 Doors Down’s hit “Kryptonite,” especially for astronaut GREGORY JOHNSON. After the song was played, Greg told Houston, “Great wake up song! I really appreciate that!”
