Seether Strikes Gold in “Negative Spaces”

Bold, strong, catchy, and rock solid are just a few ways to describe Seether’s latest release Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces. The South African rock band dropped its junior album October 23rd of this year while on tour with Breaking Benjamin and Three days Grace.
“Like Suicide” opens the album with powerful lyrics backed by ear catching instrumentals. Stating “You set me up to fucking fail this time” Shaun Morgan immediately sets the tone for the album with its emotionally strong themes. You then quickly dive right into the albums first single “fake It”. The ear pleasing bassline and guitar riffs work perfectly with the bouncy straight forward lyrics to make this a sure radio hit.
Between the relatable lyrics and the strong instrumentals of “Breakdown”, lyrics such as “So break me down if it makes you feel right, And hate me now if it keeps you alright” are left pulsing through your veins even after the track has ended. With each drum beat, guitar riff, and break me down cry from Shaun this track shows everyone just how much this album is “more than meets the eye”.
If your looking for a catchy, upbeat, emotionally hurt driven track then FMLYHM is the ticket. Shaun Morgan has a way of throwing pain at the listeners head on and still keeping them pleading for more. Not many bands can cry “fuck me like you hate me” and create such a tight track. FMLYHM isn’t the only emotionally bold track, “No Jesus Christ” is a seven minute trip that will leave you speechless and wanting more.
Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces is filled with more than just power driven rock songs, it has a great balance of lighter more upbeat tunes. One of the best examples of this track diversity is “Rise Above”. Both lyrically and instrumentally this is a very tight track that would do well on rock radio or as a great crossover hit. Another possible crossover track is “6 Gun Quota” with its relatable, radio friendly lyrics. Closing out the album is “Waste”. This song does its job bringing the album together and leaving the fans wanting more as Shaun pleads “Find me a way to leave this wasted life behind me”.
With this latest release Seether has struck gold. The album perfectly demonstrates their diversity and strength by putting together a rock solid blend of the band’s talent. Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces is one of this year’s must own albums and will certainly spend more time in your cd player than on the shelf.
