No “Repetition” Here… All Pure Emotion
October 17, 2007
Heads will turn and attention will be focused as Deepfield takes the
stage in the rock world. The band from Charleston South Carolina
released their debut album, Archetypes and Repetition, on July 24th of
this year. Upon popping the disc into the cd player your drawn in by
a slow, soft intro that immediately flows into the hard hitting song
“44 Teeth”. The initial 22 seconds of the song alone are enough to
hook any listener with its great distorted guitar riffs. “44 Teeth”
lays the playing field for what is a dynamic rock album.
The first single “Get It” continues with the hard, fast , rock feel.
This song’s catchy chorus, “I can’t feel, I can’t breathe every time
that your around..” is sure to echo through your brain long after the
song has finished. Another truly standout track on this album is “Into
the Flood”. With the strong hook, “I want to write your name into my
flesh, I want to be in love with myself again, I want to bring you
down,..” who wouldn’t want to crank up the volume and hear more?
“Into the Flood” is sure to be a hit amongst teens, adults, and any
rock fan for that matter.
Archetypes and Repetition isn’t just filled with killer hard punches,
its balanced out by strong slower tracks such as “Wayside”, “The
Bleeding”, and “Dreams”. With some rock bands the slower tempo is
their killer, but that’s not the case with Deepfield. The
instrumentals and lyrics tie well together to bring emotion and heart
to each track. Just because the tempo may have slowed down a bit
doesn’t mean the tracks have lost their rock heart. On the contrary
it emphasizes the rock hard bridges and choruses that seem to be a key
characteristic throughout the the album. The acoustic touches to “The
Bleeding” as well as the heartfelt vocals of singer, Baxter Teal III,
makes this track a sure hit.
As the album rocks towards a close you run head-on into “Dead Horse
(The Love Between Us)”. This track combines killer guitar riffs,
pounding drums, and lyrics that are sure to pulse to the core. But
sealing the close of Archetypes and Repetition is a cover of En
Vogue’s “Don’t Let Go”. This isn’t just your average cover mind you,
no, this rendition of “Don’t Let Go” stands in its own class. The
band brings their own sound and emotion to this tune that makes you
want to just leave the cd on repeat till you wear it out!! Deepfield
is certainly a force to be reckoned with as they plow their way
through the music industry and into your speakers.

Red
October 14, 2007
Red (Sony/BMG) will release its first nationally distributed project End of Silence on June 6. Musically influenced by artists such as Linkin Park, Chevelle, and Muse, Red brings a unique blend of roiling guitars, epic string arrangements, strong melodies, and passionate vocals. The songs on End of Silence deconstruct struggles that listeners face, while painting a picture of redemption in the midst of brokenness. According to lead vocalist Mike Barnes, Red stands for: passion, pain, but ultimately, redemption.
The five-member band (Mike Barnes, lead vocals; Anthony Armstrong, guitar, BGV’s; Randy Armstrong, bass, piano, BGV’s; Jasen Rauch, guitar; and Hayden Lamb, drums) has been tirelessly developing the eleven-track album with grammy-nominated producer/songwriter Rob Graves over the past two years. End of Silence was mixed by Ben Grosse (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fuel, Sixpence None the Richer).
Bass guitarist Randy Armstrong, identical twin brother of guitarist Anthony Armstrong, hopes their music communicates to listeners that they are not alone in their struggles. You never know what people are dealing with in their everyday lives, but I am willing to bet that at some point, we all have experienced the same feelings of anger, sadness, and confusion. Our music addresses a lot of those experiences; those feelings, and the situations that caused them. I hope our music inspires people and let’s them know that they are not alone.
